This research project is developing a new simulation architecture called the Advanced Telecommunications Network Signaling Model (ATNSM). In ATNSM, the Block Oriented Network Simulator (BONeS) Designer is utilized to model intelligent network services carried on common channel signaling networks as specified in the functional specifications of Signaling System No. 7 (SS7) given by the CCITT. The BONeS Designer is well suited for the ATNSM because the SS7 signaling units can be emulated by data structures. This modeling technique can aid in evaluating and testing services such as 800 number processing, as well as network performance under transient conditions such as link failure. Once the ATNSM is developed, it will be used to analyze several special cases based on a realistic network segment.
