Short Biography - Timothy R. Newman
Tim was born in Topeka, Kansas. He received his Bachelor of Science
in Computer Engineering from the University of Kansas in 2002. He is currently a PhD candidate at the
University of Kansas working toward a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Electrical Engineering and plans
to graduate in December 2007. He is currently a graduate teaching assistant in the EECS department
for the EECS 888 Internet Routing Architectures lab, and has previously taught the EECS 420 Electromagnetics II lab.
From 2002 until Janurary 2007, Tim worked as a graduate research assistant
under the guidance of his advisor Dr. Joseph B. Evans. His work included development of an agile
or software-defined radio prototype developed by the agile radio group at the Information and
Telecommunications Technology Center (ITTC). While working on the radio, Tim assisted in the development
of a hardware prototype radio that operated in the 5 GHz UNII bands and developed cognitive engines that
are to be used to "give life" to the radio.
Tim is an active member of the research
community, participating in activities that help facilitate the
exchange of ideas between members within the community. Specifically, he serves the community as the:
- An invited reviewer for the IEEE Journal on Selected Area of Communications
- An invited reviewer for the IEEE Communications magazine
Tim is a Student Member of the IEEE and the IEEE Communications Society. |
