Computer science award: Jeffery Alan Unger of Shawnee, a senior in computer science, is a member of a KU computer science and computer engineering team that won a multi-university design competition led by a major Kansas City-based health care software development firm. On Dec. 6, students from KU, Kansas State University, the University of Iowa and Purdue University traveled to Kansas City to present their semester-long design project to executives at Cerner Corp. Unger and fellow team members Samantha Cook, John Heideman and Jonathan Van Eenwyk, took first-place honors. The competition asked students to develop software for a PDA to be used by physicians and other health care providers. The PDA would present, collect and tie together patient information and other data essential to health care providers as they care for their clients.
